Week 2 (50/180)
I started week two riding along with Trooper Timmons. As troopers typically work ten hours a shift, they try their best to get at least ten different traffic stops, especially on day shift. This day, I got to experience ten different traffic stops as well as a 911 call for a verbal altercation between a driver and their passenger. I was able to learn how to maintain a situation like this and how to cause things to be civil. I also learned many things that cause a traffic stop besides speeding and how to write a different citation or warning for each one, as in no front tags, not using headlights, risky driving, broken windshields, and more.
The next day I rode along with John Henry where I was able to help Troopers and other people in law enforcement with an event held by Pathfinders for Autism for mock traffic stop scenarios at Wor-Wic Community College. This was an amazing experience to be apart of because not only were they able to teach people with disabilities about law enforcement, but I got to see their excited faces when they were able to sit in a cop car.
The day after I was able to ride with Trooper Hopkins again where I was able to learn more about writing a citation and how traffic stops work, this was a late night shift with the hours of 2:00pm to 12:00am. I was also able to see what it is like when backup is needed and what a consentual car search is like.
