Week 5 (150hrs 25min/180)

 

On the first day of this week I rode with Trooper Paul. On this day many departments like state police, county police, and city police were all doing traffic stops together in Hebron where a new traffic light was being put. In total on this day over 70 people were pulled over for speeding, driving while being on their phone, no seatbelts, breaklights being out, and more. We did this for a few hours and then Paul and I eventually moved onto a new area to conduct more traffic stops

 

On the second day I rode with Trooper Merritt were we conducted the same traffic stops in Hebron for a few hours. With the two days combined, over 200 caars had been pulled over and received warnings and citations

 

On the third day I rode with Trooper Paul again. That day we just did the average traffic stops and he showed me more about how to write up reports and how to look up someone in the system.  This day I asked him many questions about the benefits that Maryland State Police offers and how to make sure that I am ready for all the testing before the academy and what actually happens while you are in the academy

 

The next day I rode with Trooper Dean. We answered a few 911 calls, though most of those calls were dialed by mistake. Dean showed me the safest places around town versus the unsafe ones. I learned a lot about the area and how writing different reporting works and how difficult some situations can be. 

 

The fifth day I rode with Trooper Shelter. Once again we conducted traffic stops and he talked to me more about the academy. He told me that preparation for the academy can be hard and difficult to stay focused on but it is extremely worth it in the end.
