Week 3 (81/180)
On the first day of week three I rode along with Trooper Dill. I was able to learn how a Field Sobriety Test works and why it is so important when you believe hat someone is under the influence while operating a vehicle. I also learned how to handle a situation from pulling someone over who was driving risky as they were switching from lane to lane in between cars a numerous amount of times. I learned how to communicate with someone when they have a mandatory court date because of their citations from this traffic stop.
The next day I rode along with Trooper Merritt, who was the first female trooper that I had met. This day I learned how to write a report for a car crash and I also learned how woman as troopers can be treated differently than others. I was also able to go to court with her for a hearing that she had.
The following day I rode along with Trooper Huntington. This day I learned more about the NiDAR (laser) gun and how police dispatching works. I also learned the many code numbers that law enforcement uses to have better and more simple communication with one another over their radios.
The day after I rode with Trooper Dean. That day we responded to a 911 call for a car crash. After we left the scene, he explained to me some of the hard parts of the job like the gun violence and drug abuse. Trooper Dean explained to me how to write a report for instances like these.
