Week 4 (104/180)
The first day of week four I rode along with Trooper Wilkins. At the beginning, Trooper Wilkins showed me around the barrack more and told me how narcan is used and how a troopers car operates. We then did some traffic stops and showed me how to tell if a license is valid or not and if a cars registration is expired or not.
The second day of this week I was able to ride along with Trooper Dean again. I was able to help write more citations as well as learn how to see previous traffic stops from someone. I learned what roads troopers patrol and what roads city and county cops patrol. I also learned how different the state troopers academy is from deputies and cops.
The third day of this week I rode with two different troopers, Trooper Eckridge and K9 Trooper Romeo with her K9, Fenna. While riding with Trooper Eckridge, we went to a 911 call for an attempted stolen vechicle. I learned that depending on the year of the vehicle, both Kia's and Hyundai's are both very easily to steal and drive away from their steering wheel. I learned how to do a report on an attempted stolen vehicle and that you must take pictures of everything that was touched. While riding with Trooper Romeo and her K9, I was taught how a K9 does their job and why they are so important to law enforcement. K9's play such an important role to law enforcement because they can do a job that officers cannot do as quickly or safely. They have a very strong sense of smell to not only find drugs and guns, but to find missing people and evidence. After meeting a K9 in law enforcement, that has become one of my strongest interests in law enforcement besides homicide.
As I still have more hours to achieve within my internship, I am very excited to experience more and see what interests me the most.
